POEM: Death
💀❤️🔥💀
down by the river
where the fires blaze
i sat by the dead
and greeted death’s gaze
the serenity of a body
without any tension,
but where has he gone?
…beyond mind’s comprehension
the peace of the night
where the darkness sings
where the winds dance with ash
and the grievers do cling
in their sorrows and dreams
they forget what is true
what has happened to him
will surely happen to you
the brave ones are rare,
with the courage to love
they remember what is true
as below, so above
their tears are just drops
in the ocean so vast
they cry into Unity
and let go of the past
for to truly love
is to know all is fleeting,
would you trap a flower in summer
before its hour of seeding?
would you cage a butterfly
who has struggled to be free?
to paint the sky with colors
so that you can truly see
its beauty is a moment
that has simply come and gone
another moment is now
and if you’re silent, it’s a song
as i gazed into death
saw him smiling so slight
like a joke very few get,
like a thief in the night
as i walked down the river
past the fire’s scorch
toward life ever-lasting,
toward the one with the torch
to take back the fire
that was given away
by forgetting that after night
comes the precipice of day
time is the illusion
that causes all pain
that makes death smile
that turns sunshine into rain
a tap on my shoulder
and i turn around
to a man holding a baby
so new and so round
he hands me his newborn
and as i look him in the eyes
i see the same man who left us,
…just with time on his side.
